Surgical treatment for intractable epilepsy can be just as effective in elderly patients as in younger patients, according to a review of the published evidence.
Specialists from Jichi Medical University in Shimotsuke, Japan, conducted a systematic review of relevant papers published between 1990 and 2016. The initial search identified 419 potentially relevant papers, and this was reduced to 19 papers for the final analysis.
The researchers also reviewed the notes of elderly patients who had undergone surgery at their center.
