New study findings have added to our knowledge of risk factors for the development of epilepsy after stroke, researchers reported at AES 2018. However, more work is needed to develop an effective model for predicting the risk in individual patients, they added.
Specialists from the Rush University Medical Center in Chicago, Illinois, USA, retrospectively reviewed the records of all patients older than 60 years of age who were seen at the center in the period 2011-2016. Eligible patients were defined as those with a history of stroke and one or more seizures; those with a history of epilepsy prior to stroke were excluded.
