Lack of knowledge of sudden unexpected death in epilepsy (SUDEP) among healthcare providers in Uganda make contribute to higher mortality and worse outcomes for people living with epilepsy (PLWE).
Why this matters
In sub-Saharan Africa, mortality in PLWE is six times higher than the general population, with SUDEP being the leading cause. In countries such as Uganda, understanding of the disease and adherence to medication are poor; assessing the reasons for this may help improve outcomes.
