Physical activity was associated with reduced risk of dementia in older adults in Korea. Even a small amount of light-intensity physical activity per week resulted in significant dementia risk reduction.
Why this matters ?
Physical activity is protective against vascular diseases, non-vascular diseases, and death. As such, guidelines recommend 500–999 metabolic equivalent minutes per week in older adults.
It is possible that physical activity can also prevent dementia; however, findings to date have been mixed. A large study of the association between differing levels of physical activity and dementia incidence is warranted.
