Researchers at the Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center, in Cincinnati, Ohio, USA, identified factors related to transition readiness in adolescents and young adults with epilepsy. Lead author Dr Aimee Smith presented the findings at AES 2018.
According to Dr Smith, the transition from pediatric to adult care is a time of high risk for patients with chronic illness. Patients may experience discontinuity of care, poor treatment adherence, and decreased quality of life. Few empirical studies have evaluated transition readiness in epilepsy, said Dr Smith.
